Alaska CHARR is working hard to represent you and to promote and protect our industry within state government. We are following many bills that could affect CHARR members and have serious implications to our industry. Alaska CHARR Board and industry members flooded the Capitol on January 29 and delivered clear, meaningful messages to their legislators. We had an excellent turnout at our legislative reception this year, with over half of the legislators and the commissioner of the Department of Commerce showing up to speak with our members and ask questions. Sarah Oates and our lobbyist, Kim Hutchinson, will be spending much time in Juneau, working hard to get our number one priority – the Title 04 rewrite – finally passed as a complete bill.

ALASKA CHARR SUPPORTS THE PASSAGE OF A COHESIVE TITLE 04 REWRITE BILL
For the last eight years, many stakeholders from the public health and safety sectors, along with the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board and the hospitality industry, have spent thou-sands of hours working together through a process of consensus to rewrite Title 04 – the laws that govern the licensing, manufacture, and sale of alcohol in the state of Alaska. Over the past year, a working group composed of equal representation from retailers and manufacturers have worked extremely hard to find compromises between the tiers that would preserve key components of the three-tier system while promoting expansion and evolution of a responsible alcohol industry. While we generally support the majority of SB 52, the current version must be amended – as agreed upon by retailers and manufacturers – to eliminate highly-contentious language from the bill and replace it with language that represents true compromise among the industry. This concept has gained support from all sectors of the stakeholders’ group.
