(TAP)® Certification

THE CLASS

Training for Alcohol Professionals (TAP)® is a state‑approved alcohol server and seller certification in Alaska. It is a live, instructor-led class that must be taken during the scheduled times listed on the Alaska CHARR website under the Events section. The course runs approximately 4 hours and covers state alcohol laws, ID verification, and safe service practices. Pre-registration is required at least 24 hours in advance for all sessions. A valid, government-issued photo ID is required to attend.

THE EXAMINATION

All participants take the exam immediately after the course and have 24 hours to complete it. The exam consists of 40 questions, and students have up to 90 minutes to finish once they begin. A score of 85% is required to pass. If a student does not pass on the first attempt, a retake is available immediately.

THE CERTIFICATE

At the end of the course, students complete a survey to receive a temporary certificate that is valid for 14 days. The permanent TAP® card will be mailed to the shipping address on your profile. The certificate is valid statewide and remains valid for 3 years.

THE LOCATION

Courses are held regularly via live webinar and are also held in person in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Mat-Su, Ketchikan, and other areas. The exact locations can be found on the Events Registration page.

  • Non-Members: $65

To register for a TAP® class, you must be logged into your Alaska CHARR account HERE. Visit the EVENTS page. Select your preferred course date and location, then click "Register Now" at least 24 hours before the class. Payment is due upon registration.

If you do not see the member pricing option, please fill out the contact form before completing registration. Membership approvals can take at least 24 hours.

TAP® Renewal

CANCELLATION POLICY

Cancellations received in writing 3 or more days prior to the class will result in a refund of the course registration fee minus a $10 administrative fee. No refunds will be issued less than 3 days prior to the class date.

 TAP TRANSFER POLICY
  • If you wish to reschedule to a different class date after registering, and you notify us 3 or more days prior to the original class date, your registration fee will be transferred free of charge.
  • Change requests made less than 3 days prior to the original class date will incur a $10 administrative fee.(Please purchase transfer fee at our Store)
