Cancellations received in writing 3 or more days prior to the class will result in a refund of the course registration fee minus a $10 administrative fee. No refunds will be issued less than 3 days prior to the class date.
  • If you wish to reschedule to a different class date after registering, and you notify us 3 or more days prior to the original class date, your registration fee will be transferred free of charge.
  • Change requests made less than 3 days prior to the original class date will incur a $10 administrative fee.(Please purchase transfer fee at https://www.alaskacharr.com/products/admin-fee )

Yes, registration is required for in-person classes and webinars; you can register online here.

For in-person classes, bring a government-issued picture ID and something to write on.

For webinars, you will need to upload a government-issued picture ID 24 hours prior to the class date. Instructions are included in your confirmation e-mail. 

In Anchorage the TAP class is $65. Employees of CHARR members receive a $15 discount and pay $50. The fee to renew without taking a class is $70 for non-members and $55 for members. ​Outside of Anchorage you will need to check with the local instructor on the cost. All instructors offer CHARR Member discounts. The Anchorage office accepts cash, or debit/credit cards as payment. 

Typically class lasts 4 hours but can be as long as 5 hours

Yes. There is a test at the end of the class, and you must receive an 85% to pass the course successfully. (87.5% for renewal testing).

A retake will be available if you fail the assessment.

If you fail the retake, you will be required to purchase and attend the class again

Retakes are not available  for renewals

Yes, for live classes, you will have 90 minutes to complete the test.

Yes, for webinars (online classes), you have access to the test for 24 hours after class has ended. Once you have started, you have 90 minutes to complete the test.

Anyone involved in the sale of alcohol in any way, including servers, bartenders, security, managers, owners, and retail clerks. 
No. However, you must be 18 or older to receive a TAP® certification.
Yes. There is a 30-day grace period FOR NEW HIRES ONLY, unless you are working in Anchorage, in which case there is no grace period. Within the Municipality of Anchorage, you must have your TAP card prior to serving or selling alcohol. You may not let it expire and still work.
No. Unlike other alcohol certification classes, which make you wait up to a month after completing class, your TAP® card or temporary certificate is issued immediately upon successfully completing the certification survey following the exam.
No. Alcohol server training is state-specific as state laws vary a great deal.

Yes, you can attend the webinar while in another state. 

We will only mail TAP cards to an Alaska address, or you can pick them up at our Anchorage office when you arrive in Alaska. 

There is no law prohibiting those with DUI from having a TAP card.

Returned TAP Cards:
If your TAP Card is returned due to an undeliverable address, we will notify you via email with instructions on how to resolve the issue. Follow-up reminders will be sent at 30, 60, and 90 days. If the issue is not resolved within 90 days, the returned card will be securely shredded, and a duplicate card can be requested for a $20 fee.

Out of State Shipping Address:

Due to extended delivery times and undelivered mail, we kindly ask that TAP Cards be shipped to an in-state

(Alaska) address.
